Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met a group of Yemen’s Ansarullah political council members, headed by Mohammad al-Bukhaiti, in Tehran on Sunday. At the meeting, the Iranian diplomat pointed to recent talks between Yemeni groups in Switzerland and hoped that they could reach an agreement ensuring the interests of the Yemeni nation, Tasnim News Agency reported. Amir-Abdollahian noted that Iran’s stance toward Yemen has always been in line with “maintaining the people’s interests”.

“We support dialogue among different Yemeni sides and a political solution to the Yemeni crisis,” he said. Amir-Abdollahian said attacks by a Saudi-led coalition on Yemeni institutions, residential areas, cities and villages have further complicated the situation and paved the way for the exploitation of terrorist groups. Bukhaiti welcomed Iran’s efforts aimed at putting an end to war and dispatching humanitarian aid to Yemen. He said the popular resistance in Yemen has “a favorable status,” stressing that army and popular committees were able to ensure the security of regions under their control.
