Based on a quadrilateral MoU between Iran’s Red Crescent Society, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Kenya Red Cross Society, and Somali Red Crescent Society, Iran will contribute $2 million to help counter hunger in Somalia. The announcement was made by IRCS head, Amir Mohsen Ziaei, during the Specialized Meeting to Thwart Hunger at the 32nd International Conference of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Geneva, reports IRNA. “Relief agencies need to carry out effective plans for empowerment of the African people to check famine in Somalia in particular,” said Ziaei, underscoring the need to adopt a program for economic empowerment of poorer nations. The Geneva conference was held December 9-10.
