Trade Promotion Organization of Iran has issued a permit allowing Iran’s Customs Administration to import 106 special cars for disabled people.
The permit has been issued upon the request of State Welfare Organization.
The organization dispatched a list introducing the 106 eligible disabled individuals who could receive loans to purchase the special cars, local automotive news website Carnet reported.
TPO has asked the customs administration to report back.
The imported cars must conform to the technical standards in place, including the fact that the engines must not be larger than 2.5 liters.
Also, individuals who receive the loans will not be allowed to sell or transfer the loan or car to another individual for at least five years.
Details of the types of cars included in the list are not yet available. However, disabled accessible vehicles fall into two groups.
The first group is a modified sedan or small car derived from vans with control mounted around the steering column. The second group is usually a larger vehicle with a ramp at the rear where people can be wheeled in while sitting on the wheelchair and fixed into place.
In Europe, Fiat, Opel and Citroen are the most commonly used vehicles for disabled drivers due to their easy modification and adaptability.
