Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said all Muslim countries should move toward unity, a requisite for restoring peace to the Middle East.
Larijani made the statement in a meeting with Lebanese Minister of Finance Ali Hassan Khalil on Monday, ICANA reported.
"Iran has always sought to promote peace in the region, especially in Syria, Lebanon, Bahrain and Yemen," Larijani said.
"Chaos in the region and misunderstandings between Muslim countries may prepare the ground for enemies to achieve their aims," he added, hoping tensions among Muslims will be eased.
Referring to unrests in the occupied territories of Palestine, the speaker said Muslims should not let Israel take advantage of the turmoil in the region to intensify oppression against Palestinians.
Larijani said some [regional and trans-regional] countries that provide terrorists with financial support and arms should realize their mistakes and stop worsening regional problems, because this is not in favor of any country. Khalil said Lebanon is fighting on two fronts: one against Israel and the other against terrorism.
He said Iran's active participation in resolving regional issues have changed the situation to the detriment of Israel.
"With the help of friendly countries like Iran, we hope to solve our problems," the Lebanese minister said.
In a separate meeting, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani also held talks with Khalil.
Shamkhani said the alarming rise of terrorist threats has necessitated confronting the underlying causes of its expansion and boosting sincere cooperation in the international community to fight it.
Praising the role of Hezbollah in combating extremist groups in Syria, he said these efforts have reduced the capacity of extremists to commit terrorist attacks in Lebanon.
On the presidential crisis in Lebanon, Shamkhani said the political vacuum in the Arab country may create a fragile situation, hoping that political factions would reach a compromise to choose a president and resolve the issue. Khalil said there are many opportunities for expansion of economic ties between Lebanon and Iran, which is a strategic partner of the Arab nation. Pointing to the need for global cooperation against terrorism, he said cutting off the routes of financial support for terrorists is a must to be able to defeat them.
Heading a high-ranking political and economic delegation, Khalil arrived in Tehran on Monday to discuss mutual ties and the latest regional developments with Iranian officials.
Khalil was also scheduled to hold negotiations with Iranian Economy Minister Ali Tayyebnia, Vice President Es'haq Jahangiri and other senior Iranian officials.
