Commander of the Qods Force of Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Major General Qassem Soleimani said in Tehran that his fervent wish for martyrdom has not been fulfilled yet. Speaking in his office in Tehran on Sunday in an interview with Alwaght website, General Soleimani reacted to rumors about having sustained injuries near Syria’s Aleppo with a chuckle. “These [injuries and martyrdom] are things that I have traveled plains and mountains to find,” he said. The comments came after reports that the senior general has been injured in fighting terrorists near Aleppo.

On Wednesday, AFP quoted a security source as saying that General Soleimani “was injured a few days ago” in an offensive in the southwest of Aleppo province. Soleimani also commented on the death of veteran Iranian diplomat, Ghazanfar Roknabadi, in a crush of hajj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia’s Mina in September, and said, “Martyrdom in Mina after prayers in Arafat and in the land of [Qur’an’s] revelation for Mr. Roknabadi was a glorious end.”
