Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan said Tehran will continue its support for the Syrian government and nation in their battle against terrorism.
In a telephone conversation with his Syrian counterpart General Fahd Jassem al-Freij on Tuesday, Dehqan hailed the recent victories by the Syrian military and volunteer forces against terrorist groups operating in the country, Press TV reported.
The Syrian government troops have been conducting operations against foreign-backed militants across the country and succeeded in making significant advances in numerous places. Dehqan said a “very bright and promising future” is awaiting Syria, adding that the Syrian people will prevail in the fight against terrorism.
The Syrian minister said Iran is instrumental in bringing back stability and security to Syria.
Freij apprised his Iranian counterpart of the latest developments in Syria’s anti-terror campaign.
The two ministers also discussed bilateral defense cooperation and the latest regional and international issues. The crisis in Syria, which flared in March 2011, has so far claimed the lives of over 250,000 people and displaced nearly half of the country’s population.
