Iran is the world’s 17th biggest flower producer, but ranks 107th in global flower exports, according to Gholamhossein Soltan-Mohammadi, the head of Tehran Flower Producers and Exports Association. According to the official, poor packaging and high production costs have rendered Iranian flowers uncompetitive in the global market, ISNA reported. He says close to 1.2 billion cut flowers were produced and about $40 million were earned from exports during the first six months of the current Iranian year (started March 21), adding that exports usually pick up in the second half of the year.
