Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hossein Jaber Ansari welcomed the "successful" Nov. 8 parliamentary poll in Myanmar and described it as an important step toward political development. "The considerable turnout of Myanmar people from different walks of life in the elections showed their deep interest in deciding their own fate and their hope for the country's growing progress by pursuing peaceful means," Ansari was quoted as saying on Thursday by Fars News Agency. Opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy has secured a majority in the parliament.
