A month-long art auction is planned in Kish Island in the Persian Gulf, by the end of the Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2016).
The auction organized by Mani Loqmani, a young painter and an emerging curator, includes four exhibitions in open space, “to create a unique atmosphere for the viewers to have close access to the works of art. The displays will be different from the conventional art galleries,” he said, Honaronline reported.
“The auction is aimed at engaging the society in the arts and to elicit people’s interest in painting,” said Loqmani, who is also a screen writer and cinema director, theatre and TV actor.
Decorative items will be a major part of the artworks. “This will encourage people to purchase works of art for their homes.”
There is no bar on age for artists or the style of the works.
Over 400 painters are expected to attend the event where artists “will familiarize the audience with modern painting and aesthetics.”
Veteran Iranian artists Homayoun Sabeti, Abdolhamid Pazooki and Mehrdad Ziaei are the jury and will examine the paintings and fix the base price.
Loqmani, a graduate of art, literature and philosophy from a Canadian university, said artists can also recommend the base price for their paintings. All the proceeds from the auction will go to charity.
