Japan Eyes Iran Market

An increasing number of Japanese businesses are eying the Iranian market in light of the imminent lifting of western sanctions against Tehran, Japan’s international broadcasting service NHK World reported. The Japan External Trade Organization, otherwise known as JETRO, says 18 Japanese companies are taking part in one of the largest industrial fairs in Iran, adding that the number has more than tripled from last year. JETRO was referring to the 15th Tehran International Industry Exhibition, which opened in Tehran’s International Fairground on Monday. The four-day event will run until Thursday. A total of 477 domestic and 315 foreign companies are taking part in the exhibition, IRNA reported on Monday. An executive of a Japanese firm taking part in the event says his company has not been able to do business in Iran for more than 10 years. But he expressed hope the trade fair will allow the firm to explore opportunities in the promising market.
