The huge size of broiler chickens has nothing to do with growth-promoting hormones and “they are genetically modified to grow rapidly,” said Hassan Rokni, deputy minister in animal product affairs at the Agricultural Jihad Ministry. Poultry production in Iran “is in a very good state in terms of quality and health and our chicken products are exported without any problem,” ISNA quoted him as saying. The reason for large-sized poultry is due to growth process of 40 days in Iran while in many other countries, poultry is sent to the market after 30 to 32 days of growth, he said.
