World Tourism Day Confab at Milad Tower

An international tourism conference titled “One Billion Tourists, One Billion Opportunities” is being held today at Milad Tower International Convention Center in Tehran.

Organized by Tourism Research Center of Allameh Tabatabaei University, the confab aims to provide a platform for tourism experts to share experiences, ideas and expertise.

The conference hosts scholars from American and Australian universities, including Professor Jafar Jafari of University of Wisconsin-Stout and Professor David Weaver of Griffith University.

Organizers of the event say the agenda has been prepared to sensitize the public toward tourism and its impact on the environment.

Main themes to be presented in the conference include “tourism, reinforcement of national identity and safeguarding of regional peace”, “tourism and supporting environmental principles”, “tourism and promoting Resistance Economy”, “tourism and diversity of urban economy” and “tourism and expansion of services in lodging and organizing tours”.

Weaver will deliver a lecture on “Geopolitical Sustainability: The Fourth Pillar of Tourism”. He will also conduct a training workshop on publishing articles in first-rate tourism magazines.

Jafari will speak about knowledge transfer in tourism industry and hold a workshop on “socio-cultural understanding of tourist and tourism industry”.

Professor of tourism research at Australia’s Griffith University and author of Environmental Impacts of Ecotourism (2004), Dr. Ralf Buckley is another participant of the conference. The topic of his speech is “Tourism, Parks and Conservation”. His workshop is on “sustainability of tourism”.

Dr. Syamsuddin Arif will deliver a speech on “Religious Tourism in Malay World”. He is professor of University of Technology in Malaysia, professor of Islamic philosophy and theology and researcher of logic, epistemology and metaphysics. The theme of his workshop is “ideology and tourism”.

Workshops will be held on Tuesday at the Allameh Tabatabaei University’s School of Management and Accounting in Tehran. Visit trc.atu.ac.ir for more information.
