Iranian national futsal team beat Japan 1-0 on Saturday to win the AFC Women’s Futsal Championship in Malaysia.
They defeated Thailand 1-0 in the semi-finals on Friday.
In the group stage games, Iran gained decisive victories against Hong Kong (6-0), Uzbekistan (9-1) and Malaysia (4-2) in Group A.
Japan had also won their three group matches, winning over Vietnam (4-2), Thailand (3-2) and China (7-1). In the semi-finals they thrashed Malaysia (8-1) to reach the finals.
Fereshteh Karimi was the top scorer for Iran with six goals and the second best scorer of the tournament. Two players from Japan and Malaysia scored seven goals each.
This was another superb victory for the team which had previously won the West Asian Championships twice in 2008 and 2012. Iranian female futsal players showed excellent performance in all their games and scored 21 goals during their 5 matches in the competition.
Forouzan Soleymani coached Iran and Fahimeh Zarei captained the team.
The 2015 AFC Women’s Futsal Championship had its first edition this year in Nilai, Malaysia from September 21 to 26.
