During his trip to Bangladesh on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid to discuss ways to defuse the ongoing regional crises as well as mutual relations.
The two sides said the conflicts gripping the region will not be resolved by military measures but need to be addressed by means of diplomacy and dialogue, IRNA reported.
They also declared their intention to help expand ties in political and economic domains, underlining the importance of "regular political consultations" between Tehran and Dhaka.
The two called for development of parliamentary cooperation and increased exchange of parliamentary delegations to pave the way for improved ties.
The Bangladeshi president also congratulated Iran on the nuclear accord with major powers reached on July 14.
In a separate meeting with his Bangladeshi counterpart Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali on the same day, Zarif pointed to the vast potential for promoting economic relations, especially in the field of energy. "Once the illegal and cruel sanctions against Iran are lifted, the ground will be prepared to broaden our ties."
He said visa-free travel will help expand mutual ties, noting that eliminating visa requirements for politicians could be the first step in the process.
The senior diplomats exchanged views on cooperation in the international arena, including at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement.
In addition, Zarif called for meetings of joint political and economic commissions, which was welcomed by the Bangladeshi minister.
