The Foreign Ministry rejected allegations by the Arab League regarding Tehran’s sovereignty over three islands in the Persian Gulf and its regional activities.
“The repetition of meddlesome stances with regard to Iran’s sovereignty over Abu Musa, the Greater Tunb and the Lesser Tunb will have no impact on the existing legal and historical facts and these islands are an inseparable part of Iranian territory,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said on Tuesday, Press TV reported.
She added that every activity in the three islands has been carried out in line with Iran’s sovereign rights.
Afkham dismissed the charge that Iran meddles in Arab countries’ affairs and said Tehran abides by the principles of “good neighborliness” and “non-interference.”
In a resolution issued at the end of the 144th session of the Arab League ministerial council in Cairo on September 13, the participants claimed Iran is set to perpetuate what they described as the occupation of the islands and the violation of the UAE’s sovereignty.
They voiced concern over Iran’s construction of settlements on the islands and military exercises in the region.
