Iran has been selected once again to host the Middle East Rally Championship in 2016.
The Motorcycle and Automobile Federation of Iran made the announcement on Saturday.
The sports event was awarded to the Islamic Republic in a recent meeting held in Lebanon. This is the second time Iran will be hosting the car rally.
A leg of the 2015 championship was held in Shiraz, situated 919 kilometers (571 miles) south of Tehran. Rallying, also known as rally racing, is a form of auto racing that takes place on public or private roads with modified production or specially-built road-legal cars.
The sport is distinguished by running not on a circuit, but instead in a point-to-point format in which participants and their co-drivers drive between set control points, leaving at regular intervals from one or more start points.
Rallies may be won by pure speed within stages or alternatively by driving to a predetermined ideal journey time within the stages.
