Contributing to efforts to promote regional peace and security and counter destabilizing activities in the Middle East is among Iran's priorities, the deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs said.

"[Protecting] the security of the region demands every country's cooperation. Iran supports peace and security and stands against any activity that causes instability in the region," Hossein Amir Abdollahian said in a meeting with a Lebanese delegation comprising representatives of political parties in Tehran on Monday, IRNA reported.

The senior diplomat stressed that Tehran's main foreign policy is to broaden ties with all countries, especially Islamic, regional and neighboring states.

Referring to the ongoing crises in the region, he stated that Israel seeks to take advantage of the situation and provoke more conflicts.  He said fighting terrorism and bolstering resistance groups are high on the agenda of the Islamic Republic.

He also noted, "In the face of crisis, we always advocate political solutions."
