A delegation of Mauritanian lawmakers is in Iran for talks on mutual ties and the region, ISNA reported.

The lawmakers met Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian in Tehran on Sunday to discuss bilateral relations, the latest developments in Arab and Muslim countries and the current situation in North Africa.  The senior diplomat called for “practical measures” to remove obstacles in the way of expanding relations, stressing that cooperation between the parliaments of the two Islamic countries could pave the way for improved ties.

Amir Abdollahian described “efforts” and “initiatives” by the parliamentary friendship groups between Iran and Mauritania as an “effective step” toward cementing relations, underlining the need for increased consultations between the groups.
