The deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs invited the UN special envoy for Yemen to visit Tehran for consultations on the situation in war-ravaged Arab country.

Hossein Amir Abdollahian extended the invitation in a phone conversation with Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, Fars News Agency reported on Tuesday.

"Resolving the Yemeni crisis will be possible only through [adopting] a political solution, [conducting] intra-Yemeni dialogue and commitment of all regional parties to holding talks to help settle conflicts," he noted.

Amir Abdollahian hailed the envoy's efforts to defuse the crisis through diplomatic means and called for an end to the Saudi-imposed blockade on the impoverished country, which has aggravated the humanitarian crisis.

Ahmed pointed to UN efforts to develop a framework to establish political dialogue among different Yemeni groups and said, "Despite difficulties, diplomatic talks are being pursued in a positive atmosphere and all the involved groups agree on the need to resolve the crisis."

He said securing a ceasefire across Yemen and holding national dialogue based on UN resolutions would prepare the ground for the resolution of the crisis.
