A veteran Egyptian journalist and author said Iran’s “legendary resistance” against US pressure earned it the nuclear deal with major powers. Mohamed Hassanein Heikal told Lebanese daily Assafir on Monday that “Iran is the only regional country to resist America,” Press TV reported. “What has changed the conditions was Iran’s resistance.” Heikal referred to the planned review of the deal by the US Congress and said much noise will be raised there over the agreement but will ultimately die down. He also said Egypt wants to move closer to Iran but “there are attempts to dissuade (Egyptian President) Abdel Fattah el-Sisi from (seeking) close relations with Tehran.”
