An Indian trade delegation led by deputy director of the Confederation of Indian Industry Aditya Ghosh is wrapping up a week-long visit to Iran today. Their tour included a meeting with the secretary general of Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, Ebrahim Bahadorani, among other key private sector players.
Calling for closer ties between India and Iran, the Indian official said: “The delegation I have brought along is composed of the representatives from ten leading companies active in industrial machinery manufacturing, new energy, textile, electricity, power plant equipment, oil, gas, petrochemicals, transportation, home appliances and rice production.
“We believe that the two countries need to enjoy the latest state-of-the-art technologies; this would come to pass through bilateral cooperation,” he added.
Referring to the historic nuclear deal between the permanent members of the United Nation Security Council – the US, Britain, France, Russia, China plus Germany – and Iran, Bahadorani said: “Demand for participation in the Iranian market has soared but our perspective toward India as a committed trade partner under the sanctions regime has significant dimensions,” Donya-e-Eqtesad reported.
Recent years have seen scores of trade delegations shuttling back and forth between Tehran and New Delhi to prepare the ground for closer cooperation between the two countries. The time is ripe for India to play a significant role in the economic relations now that the sanctions are about to be lifted, the Iranian official noted.
