Former vice president Mohammad Reza Aref said reformists should seek to win most of parliamentary seats for Tehran Province in the Feb. 26, 2016 Majlis vote because an outright victory in Tehran will have “a significant political meaning.” The pro-reform politician made the remarks in a public address in Islamshahr, which is considered a power base for reformists, IRNA reported on Sunday. Pointing to the 2013 presidential poll, Aref said in the election reformists sought to bring about change and help reverse the previous undesirable trend and achieved their goals, referring to reformists’ backing for President Hassan Rouhani which led to his victory. The process should be completed with a victory in the Majlis election, he said, adding that if reformists perform successfully in the next election, they along with moderates will likely be able to win the 2017 presidential election.
