About 6.5 million tons of non-oil goods worth $3.6 billion were exported via Bushehr Province during the first quarter of the current Iranian year (started March 21), which shows a 22% increase in volume compared to the similar period last year, according to the supervisor of Bushehr Customs Office.
“Bushehr recorded the highest amount and value of exports among provinces across the country during the three-month period,” IRNA quoted Ahmad Pourheydar as saying.
Petrochemicals, gas condensates, linear alkylbenzene, cement and shrimp were the main goods exported through 13 customs offices in Bushehr.
Persian Gulf countries, India and Vietnam were also the main export destinations.
Pourheydar added that 449,000 tons of goods valued at $882 million were imported through the province over the same period, which indicates a 67% increase in volume and a 52% rise in value compared to the similar period a year before.
“Bushehr’s quarterly customs revenues reached over $158 million, having increased by 41% compared to last year’s corresponding period,” he noted.
Head of Bushehr’s Industries, Mining and Trade Organization, Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini, said earlier that the province accounted for 33% of the value and 26% of the volume of Iran’s exports during the first three months of the current Iranian year.
According to managing director of Bushehr Province Ports and Navigation Organization, Mohammad Rastad, Bushehr Port has the capacity to load and unload 430,000 TEUs of cargo annually and the figure is set to increase to 500,000 TEUs after the completion of Bushehr Port Development Plan on Negin Island – a small sedimentary island near Bushehr city, the capital of Bushehr Province.
He made the remarks in a meeting with a group of Italian experts headed by vice president of Maritime Container Terminals at Contship Italia Group, Marco Simonetti, who took a tour of port facilities and structures in Bushehr last week.
