Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said western states have been following a policy of hypocrisy on terrorism.
"The criminals behind the June 28 terror incident are working freely in European countries and the United States and even hold meetings and joint conferences on human rights with officials of such countries," the Leader said.
"Such a policy reveals the extreme hypocrisy and wickedness of the self-proclaimed advocates of human rights," he said in a meeting with families of martyrs in Tehran on Saturday.
On 28 June, 1981 (7 Tir, 1360), a powerful bomb went off at the headquarters of the Islamic Republic Party, where the party's leaders were holding a meeting. Tens of officials, including the then head of the Supreme Judicial Council Ayatollah Mohammad Beheshti, were killed in the bombing, which was carried out by the banned Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization.
The incident "helped reveal the power of the revolution and its deep influence on the society," the Leader said referring to the fact that the plot failed to achieve its intended goal to undermine the Islamic Republic by killing its leading figures.
"(It) brought the enemy to its senses that the policy of violence is ineffective against the Islamic Revolution," IRNA quoted Ayatollah Khamenei as saying.
He warned of attempts to disguise the criminal nature of the US by media and propaganda campaigns, saying, "Those who are trying to mask the vicious hostility of the United States and some of its followers (toward us)… are traitors to the nation and the country."
Ayatollah Khamenei underlined the need to raise awareness about the enemy's ploys to be able to thwart them.
"The nation should develop a deep understanding of the enemy to be prepared to confront it in the battlefield of the soft war in cultural, political and social domains."
