Advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution on international affairs Ali Akbar Velayati met visiting Syrian Interior Minister Mohammad Ibrahim al-Shaar in Tehran on Tuesday.
Velayati said Iran and Syria have a "brotherly" relationship with a long historical background, IRNA reported.
Referring to a trilateral security meeting scheduled to be held in Bagdad between Iran, Syria and Iraq in the coming days, he said after the meeting, relations between the three countries will undergo "significant overhaul."
The Syrian interior minister hailed Iran's support for his country in the fight against terrorism.
Shaar pointed to Monday's meeting with his Iranian counterpart Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli and the agreement signed between the two countries on expanding security cooperation, saying the main focus of the agreement was a joint anti-terror campaign against. He said terrorism, as a phenomenon that has engulfed the region, is gradually targeting the whole world.
"Terrorists who are active in Syria under various names all follow the same objectives, namely destroying the country, its assets and the nations' possessions to provide a soft target for the Zionist regime."
On the sidelines of the meeting, Velayati answered reporters' questions about the future of the ongoing nuclear talks with the major powers.
Asked about a bill passed on Tuesday requiring Majlis approval of a prospective nuclear deal which would envisage the implementation of the International Atomic Energy Agency's Additional Protocol, he said according to the Constitution, signing any type of agreement and joining any protocol on behalf of the Islamic Republic needs parliamentary approval in the first place.
The director of the Center for Strategic Research of the Expediency Council noted that it is up to the government and Parliament to decide on such issues in collaboration with each other.
