Iran’s longest arch bridge, named Karun 4, was inaugurated on Wednesday in Shahr-e-Kord, Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari Province with First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri in attendance.
At 378 meters long and 300 meters wide, Karun 4 is the largest construction of its kind in the country, Mehr News Agency reported.
Jahangiri said construction of the bridge under sanctions is a testament to Iran’s engineering capabilities and shows the Islamic Republic has achieved independence.
Aimed at establishing a route between cities located in the way of Izeh-Shahr-e-kord, the country’s largest arch bridge is set up on Karun 4 dam’s lake.
The design and construction of the bridge began in 2011. It weighs some 3,800 tons and is constructed of 1,212 pieces.
Director General of Roads and Urban Development in the province Qasem Qasemi noted that the bridge was designed and constructed by Iranian experts.
He said the metal body of the structure was equipped with the most secure control components.
