IKCO has announced it will begin presales of the new Renault Clio 4 hatchback vehicle next month.
Mostafa Khankarami, made the announcement of the presales of the small Renault on the sidelines of Shiraz Auto Exhibition in the center of the country.
The latest announcement about the Clio comes after months of speculation whether IKCO or Pars Khodro would sign the deal to produce the hatchback.
IKCO first intimated that they would be the sole producers of both the Renault Clio and Captur small SUV. However under the new agreement between Renault and Iran Khodro, a new joint company, Renault Pars, has been created to produce Captur, whereas Clio looks to be produced by IKCO in their main factory.
First launched in 1990, Clio is classed as a supermini. It has had substantial critical and commercial success, being consistently one of Europe's top-selling cars since its launch.
The latest version, the Clio 4 has received generally good reviews in Europe since its release in 2012.
Irish Auto writes, "The engine is well-proven and it suits the Clio well, especially for long journeys.
Even though it only has five gears, it never feels strained on the motorway and yet the gearing is just fine in town too." The Irish review site notes the Clio's chassis is good, mixing decent body control and a lithe, agile feeling with impressive ride comfort in all situations.
In May, Renault said if sanctions are lifted, Renault would consider introducing its Clio hatchback and Captur, as well as entry-level vehicles such as the Logan sedan and Duster SUV.
European manufacturers aim to return to the country if sanctions are eased under a proposed nuclear pact.
Iran and the US have agreed to a framework for a deal on limiting Iran’s nuclear program, and the two sides are working to finalize an accord by June 30.
