Campers responsible for the wildfire that devoured over 100 hectares of forest in Ilam Province last week have been arrested, deputy commander of protection unit at Forest, Range and Watershed Management Organization, Colonel Gholamreza Hassani said, according to the organization’s website. The wildfire has been ruled an accident, since the campers initially started a campfire that went out of control, spreading quickly over the forestland due to drought and strong wind. The topography of the region made it difficult for fire trucks to access the fire, but civilians joined forces with firefighters to stop the fire.
