Iran should work with the International Atomic Energy Agency to help it verify the civilian nature of its nuclear program and resolve disagreements over inspections of Iran’s military facilities, said a declaration by leaders of the Group of 7 released by the White House on Monday.

“We call on Iran to cooperate fully with the International Atomic Energy Agency on verification of Iran’s nuclear activities and to address all outstanding issues, including those relating to possible military dimensions,” the declaration said, Sputnik reported.

Iran denies the allegation that it may be seeking to develop the capability to develop nuclear weapons under the guise of a civilian program, saying the work is solely for peaceful purposes such as generating electricity and medical research.

G7 members — France, Britain, Italy, Germany, Japan, the United States and Canada — said they welcome the political understanding reached between Iran and the major powers on April 2 in the Swiss city of Lausanne.

G7 leaders also urged Iran “to respect the human rights of its citizens and to contribute constructively to regional stability.”

Tehran has always rejected western claims regarding the situation of human rights in Iran, stressing that the allegations are politically motivated.

Iran and the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) are working toward a June 30 deadline to strike a final nuclear deal to resolve the 12-year dispute over Tehran’s nuclear program.

Iranian officials have made it clear that UN inspectors will not be granted permission to inspect military sites or interview nuclear scientists under any accord.
