Mongolian Foreign Minister Lundeg Purevsuren called for expansion of relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, IRNA reported.

Purevsuren made the remarks on Wednesday in a meeting with Ambassador to China Ali Asghar Khaji, who had submitted his credentials to Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdurj as accredited ambassador to the East Asian country a day before.

In the meeting, the Mongolian minister described the political relations between the two nations as "excellent", saying in the current situation the ground is prepared for increasing bilateral ties in economic and cultural spheres.

"Mongolia's diplomatic apparatus is fully ready to (take measures to) lay the ground for mutual cooperation," said Purevsuren.

Pointing to the successful record of his country's private sector, he said forging relations between the two sides' merchants and manufacturers can help promote bilateral economic ties.

Khaji, for his part, welcomed Purevsuren's views and voiced Tehran's readiness for expansion of relations with Ulan Bator in political, economic and cultural fields.

He also called on the chambers of commerce in both countries to hold joint conferences to familiarize traders with one another.
