Tehran is to host the first international symposium of new technologies in transportation, especially hybrid and electric cars on June 3-4, Mehr News Agency reported on Wednesday.
The highly anticipated event will be held at the Iran Research Institute of Petroleum Industry and will bring together specialist electric car panels and also display test-performance of hybrid and electric cars to officially promote the new technology in the automobile markets. The side-event will put on public show the latest achievements of domestic automakers and spare part suppliers.
Hybrid cars have had a slow take-up in Iran over the past 12 months. Last year President Hassan Rouhani issued a new decree supporting the use of green fuel vehicles while participating in an event with Iran Khodro to promote their new electric vehicle. Currently another carmaker, Diar Khodro has begun selling a Chinese-built electric car, with another company selling small electric vehicles produced in Italy.
The symposium will be attended by representatives from National Transportation and Fuel Management Organization, Department of Environment, National Standard Organization, municipalities, Bus and Taxi Cab Unions, Automotive Engineering Research Center, University of Tehran Vehicle, Fuel and Environment Research Institute, transportation unions, Iranian Energy Efficiency Organization, and other domestic and international automakers.
