More than $980 million worth of textile and apparel was exported over the past Iranian calendar year (ended March 20), indicating a 5 percent increase compared to a year before, Mehr news agency quoted director general of Textile, Apparel and Leather Industry Organization in the ministry of industry mine and trade, Golnar Nasrollahi, as saying. About 20,000 firms are active in the industry, creating jobs for 300,000 people, noted the official adding that some $2.75 billion was invested in the sector last year.
