Nearly 5,000 metric tons of honey, valued at $28 million, was exported during the past Iranian calendar year (ended March 20), senior official at the ministry of agriculture Mashallah Jamshidi said on Monday. “Turkey was the biggest buyer of Iranian honey, importing more than 3,400 tons during the period,” Mehr news agency quoted him as saying. He added that the exports also went to countries such as the UAE, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Malaysia. Iran’s total honey production during the period amounted to 75,000 tons.
