The Majlis speaker warned that the activities of terrorist and extremist groups, which are dangerously increasing, can spread “beyond the Middle East” if adequate measures are not taken by the international community to curb the issue.
In a meeting with the deputy chair of the Czech Republic’s Chamber of Deputies in Tehran on Tuesday, Ali Larijani described the history of the relationship with the European country as positive and called for improved bilateral interaction, especially in economic fields, to meet the interests of the two nations, IRNA reported.
Noting that by adopting an independent approach, the EU will be capable of helping minimize tensions and crises in the Middle East, Larijani turned to the issue of parliamentary cooperation with Czech saying, “The Majlis has a positive stance toward promoting parliamentary relations with the Czech Republic.”
Referring to Iran’s nuclear issue, he stressed that the Islamic Republic is seriously engaged in nuclear talks with the P5 +1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany), noting, “If the parties fulfill their commitments, we can be optimistic about a good result.”
For his part, Vojtech Filip expressed pleasure with his visit to Iran and about his talks with Iranian political and economic officials, with whom he discussed issues of mutual interest.
He also called for the level of political and economic cooperation between Prague and Tehran to be restored to pre-sanctions levels, emphasizing the need to remove all obstacles in the way of enhanced collaboration.
“The Czech Republic supports the constructive activities of the Islamic Republic regarding regional affairs, particularly in fighting terrorism, and opposes illegal actions against independent countries in the form of air raids or arming terrorists,” he said.
During the meeting, Filip handed an official invitation to Larijani to visit the Czech Republic.
Hope for Nuclear Accord
The senior Czech diplomat also met with Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi, who expressed hope that the nuclear talks would result in concluding a final deal, providing that the other side “avoids making excessive demands and show increased cooperation and a better understanding of the realities.”
Takht-Ravanchi also expressed Iran’s readiness for launching a joint campaign against terrorism and extremism.
On the relations with the Czech Republic, the deputy foreign minister said the two countries have good capabilities to resume economic interaction, adding that Iran sees no restriction concerning such cooperation.
Filip, for his part, expressed his country’s readiness to restore relations with Iran in all political, parliamentary, economic, commercial, cultural, and scientific areas.
