The minister of agriculture predicted that 11 million metric tons of wheat will be produced by the end of the Iranian calendar year (started March 21), considering the 20% decline in the import of the grain, IRNA reported on Tuesday. According to Mahmoud Hojjati this year the imports will be less than 2 million tons. “The guaranteed purchase from local farmers this year will increase 1 million ton to reach 8 million tons while we will reduce imports by 500,000 tons”, the minister explained.
