Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi said sanctions should be removed at the same time as Iran fulfills its commitments under a prospective nuclear deal.
He made the remarks in a meeting with Latvian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrejs Pildegovics in Tehran on Sunday.
He stated solutions were worked out in the Lausanne talks early this month and expressed hope that the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) would not “obstruct” nuclear talks and would “facilitate efforts to reach a comprehensive agreement.”
He also welcomed increased “political consultations” between Iran and Latvia.
Takht-Ravanchi noted that there are many capacities for expansion of cooperation between the two countries.
He stated that Iran and Latvia can increase collaboration in various areas such as energy, agriculture, science and technology.
He also welcomed “the formation of parliamentary friendship groups and the exchange of economic delegations.”
Pildegovics stated that Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics’ visit to Iran last year opened a new chapter in bilateral relations.
He expressed satisfaction with the growing trend of Iran-Latvia relations and cooperation between Iran and Europe.
Elsewhere, he said a great opportunity has arisen for the resolution of Iran’s nuclear issue.
The Latvian official went on to say that cooperation between Iran and Europe could be expanded if a nuclear deal is sealed.
The officials also discussed the current crises in the Mideast region.
