Gilan Province witnessed a rise in tourist nights this summer, CHN reported on Tuesday.
In summer 2014, the number of overnight stays reached 18.09 million, a 8.49% increase compared with the same period last year, the provincial head of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO), Reza Alizadeh, announced.
Up by 3.21%, Gilan’s historical sites and museums hosted 727,308 tourists in the summer, among which Roudkhan Castle, Gilan rural heritage museum, and the military museum of Bandar Anzali, had the most visitors. Also Masouleh historical town, with 523750 tourists and 11% increase, was the most popular attraction in the province.
Alizadeh said the number of foreign tourist overnight stay also showed a rise of 3.07%. Most foreign tourists were from Azerbaijan, Iraq, Russia, India, Kuwait, Qatar, Turkey, and France.
Foreign government delegations from Qatar, Russia, and media from Azerbaijan, had also visited the province.
Also, 219 official tours to Gilan were operated and 2,307 cases of supervisory inspections of tourism establishments took place, having a 78% increase compared with the previous summer.
The northern province of Gilan lies along the Caspian Sea, and with 2.5 million people, is the tenth most populated province.
