The Consulate general of Iran in Karbala, Shokrollah Taheri called for expanding the export of high quality Iranian products to Iraq, addressing a gathering of Iranian businessmen in Zanjan in northwestern Iran on Monday. “At present, Iraq’s home appliances market is occupied by the Chinese commodities, while the Iranian products are of better quality and have the potential to attract the Iraqi consumers,” he was quoted by IRNA as saying. He encouraged the Iranian traders to seize the “numerous business opportunities in different sectors of the Iraqi market,” while drawing their attention to the cultural commonalities shared between Iran and Iraq. Iran-Iraq trade value currently stands at $12 billion and the amount could increase to $20 billion if the current banking issues are resolved, ISNA quoted head of Tehran’s chamber of commerce, mines, industries and agriculture, Yahya Al-Es’haq as saying last week.
