In a statement on Monday, the United Front of Moderates of Islamic Iran invited Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani to stand as a candidate for chairman of the Assembly of Experts, IRNA reported. Members of the presiding board of the assembly are scheduled to be elected in its next meeting of the clerical body on March 10-11. "The presence of Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani can help advance the goals of the system and pave the way for the development and progress of the country," the statement read.
