A Pakistani official said a good deal between Iran and the major powers would help ease tensions in the region.
Speaking to IRNA on Saturday, Pakistan's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam said, "The region is engulfed in many challenges and tensions," adding, "Clinching a good agreement between Iran and the P5+1(the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) to resolve Iran's nuclear issue would not only be a great step toward reducing regional challenges and tensions, but it would also pave the way for addressing a great deal of existing issues in the region."
Aslam said Iran and the six major powers have made good progress over the past one-and-a-half years, adding, "We are so hopeful that a good and practical agreement will be signed between the two sides in the near future."
She noted that a viable deal that meets both sides' interests and leads to the lifting of sanctions against Iran could open the door for increased economic cooperation. The diplomat said Pakistan has constantly stressed dialogue as the only way to address regional challenges, such as Iran's nuclear issue.
