Ford Mustang Mach-E Enters Uncharted Territory

When the all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E was revealed in late 2019, it was the first Mustang-branded vehicle with four doors. Now it’s moving even further away from its pony car roots.
At this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, which just concluded, the Blue Oval revealed a new, rally-inspired production variant of the Mustang Mach-E.
Dubbed the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally, this variant will be available first in the US and Europe, automotive news website Car Expert reported.
“We’re looking forward to Mach-E joining the Ford Australia lineup later this year, however there’s no news to share on the Rally right now,” said a Ford Australia spokesperson.
Ford hasn’t detailed much about the Mustang Mach-E Rally just yet, but some obvious exterior changes from the regular models include lifted suspension, fog lights integrated into the faux grille, a front tow hook, white wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich all-terrain tires, extended wheel arches and a racier rear wing.
The car shown at this Goodwood Festival of Speed had a wild-looking black-and-white Mach-E Rally livery that won’t make it to the production version as it’s “for promotional purposes only”.
It’s unclear what will power the Mustang Mach-E Rally, but given its high-performance intentions it could pack the flagship GT’s powertrain.
The Mustang Mach-E GT is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel drivetrain producing 358 kW of power and 860 Nm of torque.
Ford recently confirmed the Tesla Model Y-rivalling Mustang Mach-E for an Australian launch, with deliveries set to start later this year.
Ford Australia has confirmed there will be three variants in the local Mustang Mach-E range at launch.
The range opens at $79,990 before on-roads for the entry-level Select, and extends to $108,990 before on-roads for the flagship GT.
There are two battery options available locally, with a 71 kWh pack in the entry-level Select and a larger 91 kWh pack in the Premium and GT variants.
WLTP claimed range differs between models, with the entry-level Select offering 470 km, the Premium offering up to 600 km and the GT offers up to 490 km.
