The deputy foreign minister said Iran is closely monitoring security developments in Yemen, emphasizing that the Islamic Republic backs “national unity” in the Arab country.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran supports national unity, effective national dialogue among all groups and the completion of the political process in Yemen,” Hossein Amir Abdollahian said in an interview with IRNA on Sunday.
He said Yemen’s Ansarullah movement, the political arm of the Houthi group, has taken important steps on three fronts, namely “the campaign against corruption, the fight against terrorism and the completion of the political process,” to help bring peace, stability and security to the country.
The senior diplomat added that Iran backs “a Yemen that follows the path toward national unity, people’s well-being and regional security and stability, has constructive interaction with its neighbors and the region and is a powerful and united country in the battle against terrorism and extremism.”
