The 34th Tehran International Book Fair opened on Wednesday morning and it is scheduled to run until May 20 from 10 in the morning to 8 pm.
The opening ceremony of the annual fair was held in the afternoon at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla (prayer ground) in central Tehran, ISNA reported.
For the second time in the history of the fair, a virtual exhibition has been launched at www.ketab.ir at the same time to make books available to anyone in the country.
Some 2,700 domestic publishers and 100 foreign publishers have attended the fair this year. For the very first time, book store owners can participate in the exhibition and 200 have registered to compete with publishers in the virtual exhibition.
The website provides services at all hours and the books will be sent to the purchaser’s door free of charge.
As always, the books are available to the public at a discount. The rate of discount is 10% for the virtual exhibition and can be as high as 20% at the book fair.
The motto for this year’s book fair is “the future is worth reading.”
