More than 5,400 tons of hand-woven carpets worth more than $284 million have been exported during the first ten months of the current year, registering a 32 percent rise in volume and 14 percent rise in value, head of Iran’s National Carpet Center (INCC) Hamid Kargar told ILNA on Friday. The official said the United States as well as most European and Arab countries are among old customers of Persian hand-woven carpets while East-Asian countries including China, some African and Latin American countries as well as Russia are among the new customers. Iran accounts for more than 25 percent of the world’s hand-woven carpet market. Close to 2.3 million people are directly involved in the domestic carpet industry.
