The customs terminals in Iran’s southern Bushehr Province had the biggest share of Iran’s exports (excluding crude oil) in the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Nov. 21).
According to a local customs official, more than a quarter of Iran’s total exports during the period were shipped from Bushehr.
“A total of 18.91 million tons of goods worth $9.75 billion were exported from Bushehr during the period, accounting for 26% and 28% of total export’s weight and value respectively,” Ali Soleimani was also quoted as saying by IRNA.
The exports mainly included petrochemical products, mineral products, seafood and vegetable, he added.
Soleimani noted that this year’s exports from Bushehr Province have increased by 57% compared with the last year’s corresponding period.
China, the UAE, India, South Africa, Pakistan, Turkey and Thailand were the main destinations of exports.
Bushehr Province has a 937-kilometer coastline alongside the Persian Gulf.
Bushehr Port, the main port facility in the province, has the capacity to handle more than 7 million tons of goods per year and can host vessels weighing over 30,000 tons.
The port is capable of offering services for bulk, containerized, general and petrochemical cargos, refrigerated products, raw materials, storage and processing of various commodities, and passengers, according to the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran.
