Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Baqeri Kani met his counterpart Qatari Mohammad bin Abdul Aziz al-Khalifi in Doha on Tuesday and discussed bilateral ties, as well as regional and international issues.

Baqeri Kani, who arrived in Doha on Tuesday, underlined western countries’ self-interested and unilateral approaches to different international issues, including terrorism and human rights, Iran’s embassy in Doha said on Twitter.

“Any country that is in disagreement with the western states’ political ways will be charged with both violating human rights and supporting terrorism,” he said.

Over the past two months, western countries have made rights-related allegations and pushed for censure motions at the United Nations bodies against Iran over what they call crackdown on protesters.

Al-Khalifi pointed to Tehran-Doha’s growing bilateral ties, emphasizing Qatari officials’ will to expand political and economic relations with the Islamic Republic.

Qatar has friendly relations with Iran and has, on many occasions, acted as intermediary between the Islamic Republic and the Untied States.
