The deputy foreign minister congratulated Damascus on the recent gains achieved by the Syrian army and volunteer forces in their operations against terrorist groups on the outskirts of Aleppo, saying, “The victory promises the imminent complete liberation of Aleppo from the grip of terrorists and irresponsible armed groups.”
Hossein Amir Abdollahian also said, “The opposition groups which are linked to terrorists have no place in the future of Syria and region,” IRNA reported.
Syria’s second largest city has been split between a government-controlled western part and a militant-held eastern part since mid-2012.
The Syrian army has recently captured several villages north of Aleppo from militants, blocking a main supply route leading into the north of the city.
