A total of 200,000 tons of olives are estimated to be produced in Iran by the end of the current Iranian year in March, registering a twofold increase compared with last year, according to an Agriculture Ministry official.
“Some 100,000 of the production will be used to make brined olives. The remaining 100,000 will go to oil extraction factories, from which we expect to derive around 17,000 tons of olive oil,” Javad Mir-Arab Razi was also quoted as saying by IRIB News.
“At present, there are 75,000 fruit bearing olive orchards across the country,” he said, adding that the main production hubs are the provinces of Gilan, Golestan, Qazvin, Zanjan, Kermanshah, Fars and Semnan.
