Heavy snow has caused a heavy traffic of hundreds of Iranian trucks at Kurdestan Province’s Bashmaq crossing that borders the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.
These trucks have been held up in Marivan County and routes leading to Bashmaq, as they wait to either cross the border or unload their consignments, the news portal of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture reported.
Trade at Iran’s western and northwestern borders have been disrupted in the past couple of days due to heavy snow and freezing temperatures.
According to the spokesman of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration, around one-third of the trucks held up at the border were transit fleet from Turkey and the rest were Iranian trucks carrying export products.
Rouhollah Latifi added that cross-border trucks at Siranband checkpoint in Kurdestan’s Baneh County, Kermanshah Province’s Shoushemi and Sheikh Saleh, and Kileh in West Azarbaijan’s Sardasht County have also been stranded by heavy snow and extreme cold.
