Lordegan Dam Construction Resumes After Two-Year Gap

The construction of Khersan 3 Dam in Lordegan County, Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari Province, has recently been resumed after two years, Lordegan’s governor said on Saturday.
“The project registered only 18% physical progress after five years since the beginning of construction, as the process was halted in the past two years since the outbreak of the coronavirus in Iran,” Reza Babamir also told IRNA.
The governor pointed to the lack of budget as the main reason for the project delay and said the completion of the project requires more than $333 million.
Built on the Khersan River, a tributary of Karoun River in the southwestern province, the dam has been designed to hold 1.185 billion cubic meters of water.
The main purpose of the dam is to provide water for a hydroelectric power plant, with an installed capacity of 400 megawatts, which is also under construction there. It will also help control floods in the region.
When operational, the power plant will be able to produce over 1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually.
